Cool, Krafty, and Coffee Shop Style Classroom 

I wanted to produce a classroom atmosphere that was unique, comfortable, and totally me. After much thought and planning I came up with the perfect environment. I've always loved the colors blue and green, so I knew those would do the job. I totally dig the natural look so I decided to add a little woodsy, kraft paper too! 

I found a picture frame at Goodwill (see below) and I decided to mod podge it with different colors of scrapbook paper. Shhh...don't tell my mother!

 

          

  

I knew I would come up with a good use for this darling creation :)  And my students LOVED it! Woo Hoo! Go Mrs. Higgins.

Announcements

             I wanted to creatively display announcements and what a better way than to copy Facebook. hehe! NewsFeed it was. Ta Da! I went down to Home Depot and bought some chicken wire and stapled it right up to the wall. Then I bought some clothespins and sprayed painted them light blue. I also cut up some cardboard into arrow shapes and used those as decorations. LOVE IT!

Library

I knew I wanted couches in the library so I went to Habitat for Humanity in Bakersfield, CA and picked up these Ikea couches for $50.00. What a deal!! I also grab the two lamps for $10.00. Woo Hoo! The students wanted to be in there ALL the time. 

 Barista Corner

I went to Goodwill and bought some old frames and spray painted them and used them as decor. Cheap and cute! 

I also added an instant hot water heater, french press (for me) and hot chocolate for the students. Twice a week I offered hot chocolate as a reward. My selected Baristas (aka. Student of the Month) would serve their classmates. 

 Counters/Walls

My friend and I picked up some fabric from JoAnn's and made curtains for the windows. I went to Home Depot and picked up some painters' kraft paper ($2.50 a roll) and used that for the border. Forget about buying expensive border from the teacher supply store. I'm on a budget here!! My friend Aubri, over at Pigtails & Paint, helped me paint the "Fresh Faves" sign. I used this wall to display student artwork :)

I wanted to go for a natural look, so I used clipboards to display their writing. I pinned up the 32 boards on the wall next to the library :)

Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto Chicken Pasta

Here's what you need:

Ingredients: 

-2-3 tablespoons of olive oil

-a couple teaspoons of ground black pepper

-whole wheat penne pasta

-3/4 cup of feta cheese

-1 can of Kirkland canned chicken

-1/2 cup of fresh basil leaves

-1/2 of a red onion

-1/2 cup of broccoli

-1/4-1/2 cup of Fresh and Easy Sun-dried tomato pesto (depends on the flavor you prefer...add more if needed)

-1 tablespoon of minced garlic 

*serving 4-6 people

First, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil. Be sure to add a tb. of olive and a tb. of minced garlic. While waiting for water, oil, and garlic to boil...chop 1/2 cup of freshly packed basil leaves, 1/2 of a red onion, and 1/2 cup of broccoli.

Mix veggies, 1 can of shredded chicken, ground pepper, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil together in a medium bowl.

 

Once the water boils, add the whole wheat Penne pasta. Bring to a boil. Cook for 8-12 minutes or until pasta is soft. 

Rinse pasta under cold water. Then add the pasta to the other ingredients (chicken and veggies).  Once you stir those together add sun-dried pesto and feta cheese.

Serve in a bowl.

 For any additional flavor, you may choose to add some tomato-basil marinara sauce on top. Serve with garlic cheese bread or eat as is.

Patience, Contentment, and Convictions

Take courage, single friend. You are not alone in your wait; neither are you alone in feelings and struggles you encounter. Many godly women have waited and won. Many women have lost hope and compromised. Wait patiently and win triumphantly the future your Father has planned for you. It will always be designed with you in mind and is worth being patient to discover. Ruth was a wonderful example of a Lady of Patience. Ruth did not allow her circumstances or lack of male companionship to cause her to be impatient. Instead she concentrated on developing companionship with her Heavenly Father and chose to let Him bring a husband to her if He saw fit. She concentrated on being a lady of character, not on getting a man. She took one day at a time, knowing that God was not bound by circumstances nor her age. She used the wait to become the woman God wanted her to be. At the end of this personal preparation God chose to provide her with a husband. In Ruth 4:13, we see the end to their love story,. "So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife....."


Some qualitities that us Christians need to look for in a husband or wife...a great reminder for our own lives. Are we living our lives according to the standards of Christ and for our future spouse?

Being a Spirit-controlled Christian- Eph. 5:18
Jesus is 1 in our life, not just an ornament-Mark 12:30
Broken, understands how to rely totally upon Jesus-Phil 4:13
Ministry-Minded, wherever he or she is, we are always available-1 Cor.4:2
Motivator; people of visions, concerned about lost  souls-Romans 10:14
Sensitive spirit; in tune to the needs of others-Gal.6:2
Humble enough to be a disciple and able to disciple others-Matthew 28:19-20
Man or Woman of prayer, knows the key to success in their private time with God-Col.4:2
Family person; desires to have children and raise them properly for God's glory-Proverbs 22:6
Becoming a Lady of Conviction
The Lady of Conviction gives the Lord permission to renew her mind on a daily basis. She spends time searching the Word of God for standards that will guide her safely to God's best. (I want God's best!) She has made a significant choice as a godly woman. She has surrendered her mind to a new persuasion; God's perspective on love and romance. The convictions that she establishes, based on the Word, allow her to resist being squeezed into the mold of this world. She is a non-conformist in a biblical sense, as in Romans 12:2 which says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-His good, pleasing and perfect will." As women we need to develop these qualities now just like we want our future husband to have these qualities too. We want to marry someone for the qualities they possess now, not for the qualities you hope they will develop.
One important lesson I have learned is that the most common mistake made by marriage partners is marrying someone they intend to change. Since it is nearly impossible to change a person, you will want to set standards of dating, or of building of friendships, with men who are characterized by the qualities you want in a husband.

Becoming Unshakable

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.

- Psalm 125:1-2

I know You lead me directly to this scripture Lord. I was reading in Haggai this morning, but feeling like You wanted me to go elsewhere, and the word "Psalm" popped into my head. As soon as I started reading where I'd left off in the Psalms, I knew it was from You because I'd just been praying about having my confidence & security established "unshakably" in You. Also, I just finished telling You that I feel like I'll never see the moving of the mountain in my path – those self-constructed walls of false security that now imprison me. And here You graciously answer both my pleas to You…

Verse 1 of Psalm 125 says if I place my trust in You for my current situation, I will be like a mountain standing forever, established & enduring because of You. In fact, this passage states that if I trust You, I cannot be shaken. Nothing will be able to shake me when I'm rooted in You.

As I write this, it sounds nice & inspiring, and intellectually I say to myself, "Duh Misty – you should know that already." And I do, but applying it is totally different. Practically speaking, You've asked me to specifically trust You in places of fear…

I must trust that You know me inside & out, through & through, and that relationally You know what I need.
I must trust that You have specific plans for my life right now – good works that You've prepared in advance for me. I cannot do everything so I must trust You'll bring me the help I need.
I must trust You'll work out every difficult situation – both at my job & in my personal life – for my good & Your glory.
I must trust that if I cooperate with You, You will free me from people-pleasing.
I must trust that Your perfect love & unconditional acceptance of me will never, ever be based on my performance of any kind, and that it trumps any other acceptance I think I need.

Your word speaks these truths. I must trust Your word.

If I trust You & what You speak, not only will I be unshakable, but You will surround me like a ring of mountains replacing my false securities. You will become my fortress & my security. The full receipt of this promise begins with trust & is established by trust. God help me to dig into the truth of Your word & believe it.
